What! You haven't heard that the E. 78th Street Bridge to the East River Esplanade has re-opened? Well!
One of the happiest of locals residents was Loretto Ponticello, here seen (in the light brown coat) applauding herself as she completed the walk over to the riverside. Looking at her, and applauding too, is Janette Sadik-Khan, the Department of Transportation Commissioner. It was a glorious Friday morning, that January 20, 2012, and many others were there to celebrate:
This dog, all 206 pounds of him, waited patiently for the ceremonies to begin.
Then, there were others, somewhat smaller, who also waited respectfully.
But perhaps the most remarkable of the canines who awaited the grand re-opening was this one! Our local "balloon dog," whom
I've seen occasionally, though not often, in the neighborhood. He was definitely the right choice for today!
So, it's still winter now - but the New York Giants have finally finished their season with another win over the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl! Spring can't be long now, right?!
